I was asked to take on a ministry at my church. The ministry consists of
sending the "Strength For Service" books to members of the military
stationed here at home in the U.S.A., and those abroad.
The history of the books began during WW II and continued through the
Korean war. Some how Vietnam was forgotten about. Imagine that!!!
A WW II NAVY veteran gave his copy to his grandson, Evan Hunsberger.
Evan was a Boy Scout, hoping to earn a merit badge by revising and
editing the book. Evan got permission from the original publisher and
began revising the book with new meditations from spiritual leaders.
The General Commission on United Methodist Men assisted Evan in the
publication. After the 9-11 attacks, the book took on new and special
meanings for our soldiers in harms way. It became a special book for them.
I have sent about 30 books to our troops in Iraq and Afghanistan, which is
great, but I wanted more. From a friend I was able to obtain the addresses
of three field hospitals. Two of the hospitals are in Iraq and one is in
Afghanistan. Working with the "United Methodist Men" I am able to send
100 books to each hospital and every 3 months the United Methodist Men
will send another 100 books to each hospital.
I need your help. I need you to e-mail me names and addresses of friends,
acquaintances, loved ones, etc., and I will make sure they get a book.
There is no cost to anyone. I have had a few troops write me back thanking
me for the book and telling me how much comfort they have gotten from
the verses and devotions. The books are non-denominational.
I look forward to hearing from you soon. Send your e-mail to
